Stanislau Bazhkou takes yellow jersey in La Tropicale Amissa Bongo Stage 3
Stanislau Bazhkou (Minsk Cycling Club) became the overall leader of the international stage race La Tropicale Amissa Bongo in Gabon after his spectacular win at the Stage 3. Another Minsk rider Eduard Vorganov finished in top-3.
After two third places of Bazhkou during the bunch sprint in the previous stages, the Belarusian cyclist was set to top the podium in the Queen stage (157 km). His team-mates controlled the race from the start joining all breakaways.
This time Bazhkou didn’t wait till the finish sprint. At the last kilometres, when Thomas Voeckler (Direct Energie) attacked, the Belarusian rider followed him supported by his experienced team-mate Vorganov. Saymon Musie (Eritrea) and Abderrahmane Mansouri (Algeria) joined this group.
Bazhkou easily won the sprint finishing leaving behind Musie andVorganov. Voeckler was fourth. The overall leader Mikel Aristi finished only 14 seconds later and had to give the yellow jersey to Bazhkou.
The Belarusian athlete has also snatched the red jersey of the points classification leader.
Minsk Cycling Club is leading the team classification after Stage 3.
